The Six-Day War

The Six-Day war, also known as the Arab-Israeli War, occured June 5th to 10th of 1967. It was the culmination of longstanding tensions between Egypt, Syria and Jordan and Israel and a massing of Egyptian troops in the Sinai Peninsula, directly threatening Israel. Israel responded with a preemptive attack on the Egyptian Air Force in the biggest air invasion to have occured in the Middle East up to that point.

These planes are examples of those used in the Israeli invasion of Egypt.

The offensive continued, and Israel occupied the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank of the Jordan River (including Jerusalem). Though Israel eventually returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egyptian control and the Goaln Heights to Syrian control, this conflict greatly intensified tensions on the Middle East especially because Israel proceeded to move Jewish families into conquered areas (especially the West Bank) heavily populated by Arabs. This created obvious tensions that are still present in the area and have only intensified over time.

It is known that the U.S. supported Israel at least financially, but it is suspected that the U.S. also lent military intelligence and possibly "military volunteers" to the Israeli cause. Such accusations, as well as the knowledge that Israel was a influential country in its own right, rocked the Middle Eastern stage and escalated tensions.

This is the land that Israel aquired during the Six Day War.
